Food Photography in September

It’s that time again! Welcome to the September edition of my monthly vegan food porn series. I’m starting to get the hang of this food photography thing. Definitely far from a professional level, but you have to start somewhere. I’ve been more consistent with my props and backgrounds and I feel like this has improved my results. I also do minimal edits.  I adjust the color in certain areas and then I slightly adjust the saturation and contrast. Then, I apply a filter that isn’t too dramatic. Some of the more simplistic photos, I took on my phone and it’s just me holding the bowl/plate. I like to have a balance of realistic photos and more complex photos. Enough technical talk, here are my food photos from the month of September.

Vegan Cinnamon Rolls

I didn’t create a recipe for this. I bought a package of vegan cinnamon rolls (a lot are accidentally vegan) and I cooked them according to the package instructions.

Sweet Potato and Guacamole Lettuce Wraps

Seasoned roasted sweet potato bits in romaine leaves with guacamole.

Buffalo Tempeh Sandwich


Tempeh marinated with buffalo sauce. The bread is seeded rye (toasted). The other fixings include lettuce, onion, and vegan mayonnaise.

Zucchini Bread

The recipe is from Connoisseurus Veg and I excluded the walnuts and added a small amount of maple syrup and pumpkin pie spice.

Vegan Animal Style Fries

Some fast food restaurants have animal style fries and it is basically chili cheese fries with a “special sauce”. I’m not going to share the recipe just yet because I am doing a separate post about it.

Vegan Fudgy Peanut Butter Brownies


These are super messy brownies. I just took a traditional brownie recipe and used vegan butter and a mashed banana for substitutions. I added melted peanut butter on top.

Bean and Potato Burrito


This is another simple recipe. I used leftover chili and added cooked sweet potatoes. I also added avocado and lettuce and put it all in a warm tortilla.

Three Bean Chili with Sweet Potatoes


Three cans of beans with various spices and tomato sauce and chopped tomatoes. I roasted sweet potato wedges to have on the side.

Pumpkin Zucchini Bread

Sounds weird, but it’s good trust me! The recipe is coming soon.

Raspberry and Soy Yogurt Bowl



This is a basic breakfast for me. Fruit with flax seed, maple syrup, and granola all on top of soy yogurt.

Vegan Hamburger Helper

I am excited to share this recipe in a later post. I used to eat hamburger helper as a kid and this meal tastes just like it. This meal uses meatless crumbles and vegan cheese so it’s not the healthiest. But it is total comfort food!
