Food Photography: March Compilation

You could say that one of my hobbies is food photography. I guess that makes me a hipster. Anyway, I am constantly learning about what makes a good “food photo”. On my blog–I typically share vegan, lifestyle, or nature related posts. But, I rarely share about the topic of food photography. I thought I would share recent food photos and some advice I’ve learned. For those of you that are interested, here are my food photos from last month:

As you can see, there is still room for improvement. However, I have learned a good amount about the subject. Lighting is always important in photography, but even more so in food photography, because the food will look brownish with bad lighting. Also, backgrounds are super important. Simple backgrounds look best. Objects in the background should contrast with the food, but shouldn’t become a distraction. You can take quality food photos with your phone, but if you are like me and your blog/instagram relies on food photos, then you might want to upgrade cameras. Leave helpful tips you know about food photography in the comments. Thanks for viewing this post! I hope it was beneficial to you.

~ If you were wondering…All of these dishes are vegan. Most of the photos were taken with a canon eos rebel sl2 and edited with vsco. If you want to use one of the photos, please credit me. This post is not sponsored in any form.

I love the photos depth of field and the colour contrasts you have done well. my fave is the one with your feet and the headphones ones as they have simple hard backgrounds like you have observed. I’m not a fan on the ones with the tea towel in them as I see this as a cleaning up tool not a display object. I associate it with cleaning up at the end of the day and cleaning dirty dishes there for dirty tea towel. Your photos are fantastic just try a few without the tea towel see if it makes… Read more »
