Minimal Hair Care Routine

It’s been a long while since I have talked about anything beauty related. My beauty routines have minimized because I barely use products anymore. Partly because of my intentional lifestyle and partly because I am really low maintenance (AKA lazy). Surprisingly, I have received compliments on my hair lately. I have taken a minimal approach recently when it comes to my hair and I just wanted to share an updated hair care routine/products.

Basically the routine part is just shampooing every few days. Last year, I was having a lot of scalp irritation and hair breakage. When this happened, I had to cut back on most products. That’s why I don’t use conditioner or heavy leave-in conditioners, etc. I initially thought my hair would suffer from not using these products because I have wavy hair. However, it actually has helped a lot and my hair has become more manageable and my scalp is healthier.

I currently have two shampoos that I use. I ordered them from iHerb and they were both under $10. They are also cruelty free (Side note: iHerb is having a 10% off hair products sale right now). The shampoo I use regularly is called — Avalon Organics, Thickening Shampoo, Biotin B-Complex Therapy. This shampoo has simple ingredients and doesn’t irritate or dry out my hair. Also, a little goes a long way. I’ve had the same bottle for quite some time. I don’t have a bad thing to say about this product. The other shampoo is called —  Jason Natural, Treatment Shampoo, Dandruff Relief. I use this if my scalp is irritated or if I feel like I have oil build up. It is a medicated shampoo, but it is not drying like other medicate shampoos. The only drawback is the smell sometimes bothers me. It doesn’t smell bad, it just has a distinctive smell.

Shampooing is the bulk of my routine. I somtimes use dry shampoo when I am in a hurry. The one I use at the moment is: Renpure Biotin and Collagen Dry Shampoo. This is cruelty-free and not as irritating as some other dry shampoos I have tried. I sometimes use Maui Moisture Thicken and Restore Bamboo Fibers Mist. That’s a long name! I like this because it makes my smoother without weighing down my hair. It is supposed to prevent hair breakage. I haven’t been using it long enough to notice, but it does have aloe vera juice and neem oil and those are great for the hair.

Both the dry shampoo and the hair mist can be found at most drug stores or on their websites. That’s basically all I do for my hair care. Thanks for reading! Feel free to ask questions or share what you do in the comments!

  1. I kid you not, I just picked up the Jason dandruff relief shampoo last week. And I know the smell you’re talking about. I think I have similar hair to yours. Thank you for sharing what you use. My scalp has been irritated for a long time and I have breakage too.
