Sweet Treats for Vegans

Following a vegan lifestyle shouldn’t feel limiting! You don’t need to say goodbye to your favorite treats when you adopt a plant-based diet. Only a few easy substitutions are needed! I have three sweet treats that I want to share. They are fully vegan and beginner friendly.

Sweet Treats for Vegans

1. Lemon Blueberry Bread


I cheated on this one because it’s barely homemade. This is more of a food hack. Most baking mixes are accidentally vegan. Instead of using eggs use a flax egg (1 tbsp of flax seeds with 2-3 tbsps of water = 1 egg) or 1/2 of a mashed banana. If the box calls for milk, just use almond or soy milk. Vegan butter/margarine or coconut oil can be used instead of butter. To turn it into lemon blueberry bread, add 1 cup of blueberries and the juice of one lemon. Bake according to the package instructions. I baked it for 45 minutes at 350 degrees in a loaf pan.

2. Chocolate Peanut Butter Diary-Free Milkshake 


This is my favorite! My family loves this too and they are not vegans. I might have already posted about this before, but it’s such a crowd pleaser so I’ll keep talking about (probably until the day I die). This is banana based. I blend together 3-5 frozen bananas with 2 spoonfuls of cocoa powder and 1 spoonful of peanut butter. I use about 1/2 cup of almond milk to make it the right texture. That’s basically it! You don’t need exact measurements. If you want to make the healthy version of this–add in spinach, chia seeds, and macadamia nuts to the mixture and blend it together.

3. Berry Crumble


I was inspired to make this because I saw a lot of people on Instagram making crisps and crumbles, but they weren’t vegan. I successfully veganized this. I based mine off of this recipe. Click the link to find out exact measurements. Instead of granulated sugar, I used coconut sugar because that’s what I had. I used whole wheat flour and earth balance as well. I used the measurements according to that recipe, but I used fresh berries and not frozen and swapped out the non vegan ingredients. When you have assembled everything, bake the crumble in the oven for an hour at 350 degrees or until the top is golden brown.
