No One Is a Perfect Vegan

I have two trains of thought on this topic. One is about perfectionism in the vegan community and the other is my personal experience. Perfectionism is extremely visible in the vegan community and maybe it’s more intensified because of the internet. I am not discussing this to minimize veganism, because I consider myself a part of the vegan community. However, criticism can sometimes open the discussion and we should continue to question and challenge our beliefs. The definition of veganism I follow is “veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for…

Veganism is a Privilege & Other Thoughts

It’s time to ruffle some feathers! I am going to talk about the “p” word, so if you are triggered by topics about privilege, then this is your warning. Before I dive into what I want to talk about, I just need to give a little disclaimer. I am vegan and I love this lifestyle and I am not bashing or gossiping about anyone specifically. Moving on… When I was a new vegan, I would get really annoyed when people said that it was too hard and too expensive and all those other excuses. I used to think that any person regardless of economic status could adopt a vegan lifestyle.…

    I Want to be Great

We all want to, right? We all want greatness and we all want to be successful. But what happens when you get too caught up in it? Perfectionism in combination with impatience can be debilitating at times. I am usually driven and this is partly because I strive for flawlessness. Not flawlessness in a beauty sense, but I hate mistakes and they easily upset me. On the other hand, focusing on goals and aspirations typically gives me more energy. I enjoy hard work and achieving goals I set. The pros, for the most part, outweigh the cons. What happens when they don’t? At times, it can seem like too much.…

    AUTOPILOT

When you just can’t deal… I gave up my control. I’ve let life just happen. I’ve sat back and allowed co-pilots to steer me. This sounds great, right? Just sitting back and relaxing. Let me tell you, it hasn’t been great. For the past few weeks, I have done the minimum. I go to school, I go to work, I sleep, I eat, and I repeat this process every day. I’m doing the minimum, but I still feel like there’s not enough time in the day. There was a time when I wanted to do everything. And I basically did ‘do everything’. I over programmed myself. I became so involved…

    How About This Weather?

An all too common phrase in the Midwest. It’s true, if you want the weather to change, just wait five minutes. But do we have to use this as small talk? I’m not a fan of obligatory conversations. I never know how to respond and most of the time I’m just not in the mood to talk to strangers. However, I can’t help the fact that I am comforted by these monotonous phrases. If someone doesn’t start a conversation with a statement about the weather or doesn’t ask me how I am doing, something feels off. We’ve created these necessary phrases to begin the engagement process. As much as we…

    You’ll Never Have A Boyfriend Because…

Can we just stop? Can we stop constantly asking women if they have a boyfriend? Can we stop putting so much value on a person’s relationship status. I am not against relationships and I am not against people who take pride in their relationship. I am simply tired of “well-meaning” strangers asking me why I don’t have a boyfriend. Like you just met me and the only thing you want to know about me is if I am seeing someone. You don’t want to know what I am passionate about or what I am studying or even what my job is. I get the feeling that to some people, my…

    They Were Hurting Too

When you are hurting emotionally, it’s easy to be consumed with your own feelings. It’s much easier to despise the person (or persons) that hurt you, than it is to just forgive them and move on with your life. I haven’t felt this kind of hurt in a long time, but I stumbled upon a quote one day that said, “forgive those who have hurt you, for they were hurting too”. It made me think of those times where I was hurting. I never even thought about this, I was just blind with anger, self-loathing, sadness, and basically all of the feelings possible. I don’t think this justifies someone’s hurtful…

    BLOCK

Sometimes I am just tired. I can’t post new and “deep” content all of the time. I like posting meaningful personal essays, but I have been drained and uninspired lately. All of my pictures are turning out the same and I sound like a broken record. I can’t produce what is going on in my head. You might have noticed that lately I have been posting recipes and other “fluff” content. There is nothing wrong with these posts, but it is all I can do at the moment. While I’ll still be posting, I am going to take more breaks. I have so much planned for the next few weeks.…

    Looking Out

I don’t usually write about extremely personal experiences, but I feel that I need to tell this… It was just a normal day. I went shopping and everything seemed fine. I was in line checking out and someone stood in line behind me, which is a normal thing. But, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I instantly felt uncomfortable even though nothing was wrong at that moment. The man behind me was mumbling and breathing heavily. I was panicking on the inside and it felt like the cashier was taking ages to ring up my items. The man kept moving closer and closer to me. I…

    Summer Love

Summer always gives me a feeling of bliss. I love summer and I love how magical it can be. As cheesy as it sounds, anything can happen during summer time. You’re free from school and from the barren winter. Kids are cheerful and adults reminisce. Sweet treats are abundant. Family picnics are common and young love flourishes. Make this summer one to remember! ____________________________________________________ Connect with me on social media ♥ Instagram | Tumblr  Earth-friendly products ~ Green Kid Crafts , Babo Botanicals Earn money blogging ~ ShareASale *My blog contains affiliate links, however this doesn’t affect my opinion.
